A Visit (मुलाकात )
Life
Many People claim that Life is all about the choices you make. Is it true? What do you think?
Yes, I get it how well your thought can explain what life is? When you can all think about its effects on your breathing routine.
What will be the life of four children living with a suppressed mother and a drunk father who usually think that all of their sad and depressing life is all because of their family, and they will have to carry the burden all of their life?
What will the life of a sweet girl living in a society, which decides the reason for the smile or tears on her innocent chick?
Chapter 1
Kaya
Brother’s love is more pure and innocent until they have a meeting with responsibility. It can lure everyone to work for themselves or for those he loves, and in return, it takes your innocence and love for others. Responsibility can make you selfish, arrogant, and rude to others and, you can’t understand cause and effect in everything.
So, when Kailash Singh along with Brijbhusan Singh realize their responsibility towards their own family is now more important than their alcohol-addicted brother (Mahendra Singh), They choose not to financially help him and suggest him to get rid of his bad habits and take care of his family.
This makes the situation worse than ever as the youngest brother Mahendra thinks that his brothers have betrayed him because of his family, and the same night he blasts out his anger on his wife along with his innocent children.
Even after agony, the pure-hearted mother makes dinner and sings the lullaby to his youngest and beautiful daughter Kaya while others are helping his drunk father making his bed.
Later that night, the eldest son Ravindra wakes up after hearing the slapping sound of his dad, hitting her mom because she forgets to dim the lantern and he sleeps with all his tears and he dreams with all his anger not to help mom and wakes up in the morning fears how his life turns and who will be responsible?
Years after, His fears knocked at his door when 13 years old didn’t feel good and fainted. Ravindra carries his sister Kaya on her lap and runs to his uncle Brijbhusan Singh. Being a profound doctor he has years of practical knowledge and poor Ravindra didn’t have any other option.
She is suffering from high fever and she needs medicine and good care to recover. As being the youngest child she was loved by all while her older sister Maya volunteered to take good care of her and never to leave her side at any condition.
The same night, Mahendra loses in gambling and walks towards the only path he knows, Alcohol, and he doesn't have any knowledge of what happens to her daughter. After a long walk in ecstasy, he came to know, and at the door, Ravindra asked him for some money for medicine.
- पापा २० रुपए दीजिये
( Father give me Rs 20)
- चल हट यहां से
(Get away from here)
Ravindra ask again
- पापा दीजिये ना
(father, please)
Mahindra reaches into his pocket and gives him the last 5 Rupees coin.
- और चाइए
(I Need more)
And, all he gets is a hard slap and raw smell of floor dust on his face. His mother comes to the rescue with guilty eyes hiding all his pain to see his son and tells him
- बाद में आना , अभी पापा को सोने दो
(let your father sleep, come back later)
Ravindra hides her anger and lets it flow with some tears. Mother wipes his tears and left him to make a bed for his father.
That very night was the worst night for that family that will haunt them until there life. The rain was rude in the presence of the wind. It feels like every drop wants to bless Kaya and be the reason for her smile. But what happened was just the opposite, her fever got worse, neither did the 2 tablets of meds did do any good on her nor the wet cloth over her forehead.
That little girl can see the lightning reflected from her mom’s face in a straight line and could hear the droplets crashing the wooden window. She could also hear her older sister Maya in Kitchen bringing utensils for the leaking roof, and his brother shaking his wet head to free the water drops and she said
- मम्मी मत सोइये
cute, little voice has a speech problem and she can not pronounce “R”, so she says “s” instead of “R” (Mom, Don’t cry)
Her mom reply while wiping out the mirror on her face.
- अरे मैं क्यों रोयुंगी
(uhh, why would I cry?)
Kaya just keeps her eyes closed while thinking about what her life would be if she can change the choice of life, change everyone else decides that that led her here.
What would her mom didn’t be with his dad?
What if she could change the choice of his uncle and let them all be together in a happy family?
What would have happened to her if her mother fought back for what’s right or her family rather than being submissive in the relationship?
How happy her family would be if they had the money and did care about his family rather than his booze?
When Maya realizes that her sister is flying in a happy dream of her own choice, she asks her mother to leave the little doll in her dream and to have dinner.
After a while, the rain droplets did find a way to kiss the innocence by thrashing the window to open wide. Every droplet now has the access to be with Kaya in her dream of floating the pool of happiness to live with her family as they want, to learn in the best school, getting a new dress at her birthday party.
She is having her most beautiful dream with all the Barbie dolls, that the family can’t afford, to get a new dress rather than trying every day to fit in her sister’s old dress, laughing at how her loving brother mimics his drunk dad. The lighting did reflect her smile of being the most beautiful choice of her life even in her LAST NIGHT.
Chapter 2
Every society has its pros and cons, and its rules and thought process defines how any family works, and the worst thing is that they do fear from any change and try to suppress it before it takes any stand against their formula of ruling their kingdom. Sometimes living under the weight of a dominant society can change your thought process.
It was the same for 13-year old Prachi, Living in a joint family with his uncle and drunk grandfather who used to abuse her mother and her aunt for his misery. Her Grandmother died 4 years ago, and they did blame his grandfather for not being so responsible and she needed it in her last time. Her father is still struggling to get a proper and stable income for his uncle, while his uncle was working in a factory to help in what ways he can.
Parachi has a younger brother and she was a little bit jealous as he has his freedom as well as love from her parents. Sarla was very much annoyed at their silly fight and being younger Pahal felt like he won. But Sarla loves both her children equally, as Prachi is much older so she wants her to be responsible and act like it.
But in her teen ages, Parchi didn’t understand what she needed here. So, she feels rejected and alone after her only friend and cousin Saachi got married against her will.
Now, This funny and innocent soul is turning into a weak, alone, and isolated one. She makes peace with her war against what society want from her
- To keep in innocence locked up in a box and be responsible
- A girl always has to know how to cook and do know how to do the household work if she wants to have a happy married life as these play a major role in married life.
- She has to be shy and forgetful about her passion to ride the bike
- A girl has to keep her voice low and doesn’t play outdoor games.
In that rainy season, she got a high fever and cold. Sarla was taking good care of her and her aunt helping her in the kitchen.
One Night, Sarla ask Pahal to serve dinner to his sister, when he got there, Parachi was sitting on her bed like everything was fine, and when he asked her
- क्या हुआ?
(What happened?)
But next second he surprised when she says-
- कुछ भी नहीं तू जाके अपना काम कस
(nothing, just mind your own business)
Pahal just leaves the plate on her bed, and he leaves the room. She starts eating by sitting just like a squat, but no one was there to notice.
After her dinner and all her work, Sarla came to see her loving daughter found out she was sleeping peacefully and sweating. She thought that it’s because of her fever, and slept beside her.
The next morning she wakes up by the heavy breathing of Prachi and her nose bleeding. She called out for her husband while wiping the blood off her nose and resulting in waking her up.
Prachi said -
- क्या हुआ, सोने दीजिये!
(What Happened, let me sleep)
like nothing ever happened
Her Mom show her blood and ask
- ये क्या हुआ?
( how does this happen?)
Then Prachi answered surprisingly
- हमको नहीं पता
(I don’t know)
But then, Sarla notices one thing very unusual in ‘Her Voice’.There was no sign of weakness in her voice. Her voice was at her best and Sarla checked her body temperature. It was fine. She is now out of fever and weakness but still didn’t find the reason for her nose bleeding.
But They all ignore it and thank God for her miraculous recovery. After breakfast, she fainted again and her fever came back but now with more weakness. Her dad picked her up and laid her down on her bed.
She hummed to her dad “Bhaiya”( Brother) and then her eyes closed, All were surprised, but then all ignored thinking that she just muttered some words while fainting.
She slept throughout the day in fever and weakness. In the evening, when her mom went to check on her, she was sitting like squats with her head between her knees. Sarla thought she had a headache so she massaged her head and then noticed her fever was gone.
Now, this confuses her a lot, so she consulted her husband. And, then they figure out that they should go for a Tantrik ( Shaman, Priest), to deal with this. They call a Tantrik nearby and they schedule the prayer for the next evening.
The next morning, those symptoms repeat themselves, nose bleeding, returning fever, and sleeping through the day. All are waiting for the dusk to have the prayer started and to get her lovely daughter back
The Exorcism
He warned others if they want to go outside and plz go and don’t come back till that evil spirit can possess anyone. But her parents and her brother stood there bravely with a promise not to leave her at any cost.
He adds a few pieces of Chandan (Indian sandalwood) in that bonfire and puts a handful of Holy Ash over her parents & Pahal’s forehead, and instructs them to sit beside her feet and her hand to hold them tight when he asks them to do so.
He started chanting few Mantras like Agni Gayatri Mantra, (As in Hindu Mythology it is believed that Agni Dev( God of Fire) can help you scare away the evil and negative energy. Agni( Fire) is worshiped as a symbol of piety and purity of soul, as an expression of two energy i.e., heat and light).
Mantras are-
ऊँ महाज्वालाय विद्महे अग्नि मध्याय धीमहि |
तन्नो: अग्नि प्रचोदयात ||
Om Mahajwalay Vidmahe Agni Madhyay Dhimahi |
Tanno Agnih Prachodayat ||
Means- Om, Let me meditate on the great flame, Oh, God of fire, grant me with higher intellect, Oh, let the radiant God of Fire illuminate my mind.
And put the Holy ash Over her head from time to time.
And He also recites mantras like-
Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra
ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् |
उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय माऽमृतात् ||
Om Tryambakam yajaamahe sugandhim pushtivardhanam |
Urvaarukamiva bandhanaan-mrityormuksheeya maamritaat ||
Means- We worship the three-eyed One, who is fragrant and who nourishes all.
Like the fruit falls off from the bondage of the stem, may we be liberated from death, from mortality.
After around 30 min of this reciting and other mantra and asking her name?
The entity finally show them
Prachi sit up with her hand and legs tied looked at her father and said -
-भइया , बात सुन लो मेसी , उसको सोको दसद हो रहा है
(Brother listen to me, Stop him(Tantrik), he is hurting me).
Everyone looked at him and Tantrik asked him that” Do you have any sister who died? After a while, Ravindra notices that she is saying “s” instead of “R” in her words.
He asked in surprise-
Kaya??
She replied -
हा भइया
(yes Brother).
Now, Tantrik suggest him to ask her why she possessed her little daughter
Ravindra with tears in his eyes asks
-क्यों आयी हो?
(why did you come back?)
“ I came to stay with my family, please don’t let me go” And started crying.
While Sarla and Pahal had no idea what was going on. As they didn’t have any clue about Who is Kaya and what happened to her?
Ravindra asks again
- क्यों आयी हो काया?
(Why did you come, Kaya?)
Then Kaya started crying and said that-
-मेसे साथ जो हुआ ,मैं नहीं चाहती की इसके साथ भी ऐसा हो?
(What happened to me, I didn't want to deal with the same)
-मतलब
( Means?) -he asks
प्राची को खुश रखो, उसको सब कुछ दो, उसको कभी किसी चीज़ की कमी नहीं होने
दो, हमने बहुत सहा है, अपनी बच्ची मजबूर मत रखो
(Make her happy, give her everything, provide her everything that she deserves. We have suffered in our childhood, don't make her suffer.)
Sarla started crying after realizing what her mistake was and Pahal was failing in hiding her tears after realizing what was going with her sister.
Ravindra made a promise to Kaya that “he will do everything she needs and won't make her cry again with a promise from Kaya to return her daughter to him.
All were crying except for Tantrik who just stood silently and witnessed the emotional moments between a brother and sister and how a family member helped their own beyond their grave.
Prachi vomited and a patch of her nose started to bleed for a while and then fainted, Ravindra caught her before her head hit the ground.
Now that Shy, and isolated girl graduated from one of the top universities and those parents who resisted her even to bike, now let her travel alone to another state on her own.
