The Guardian Angel

BRAHM BABA ( ब्रह्म बाबा )

It has been over 10 years now when I visited my Grandmother (Nani) house in Summer Vacation. My Granny home is just like a typical house in a village. Few houses nearby and the whole area is surrounded by forests, garden, and fields and a river in the north side with a small dam.

One night I saw few people going deep in the jungle with few sacred things in their hands just seems like they were going in a prayer ceremony, But Deep in the jungle?

I ask my uncle where are they going in the night with all these things in their hands? Is there any ceremony in the village that we are not invited too.? (As in small village if there is any function or party organized it mandatory to invite all people in that village  in a way to show their respect and love).

He told me ” No, There isn’t any function or prayer ceremony in that village.

So, then where are they going at this time???

“ They are going to pray to BRAHM BABA  for their deceased son.

In Hindu Religion “BABA” term is used for a saint person.

A few decades ago, There was an old person who used to live like a saint and pray to god every time even he died nearby the peepal tree ( also called bodhi tree or ashwattha tree) while praying. Now he becomes the guardian angel of this village.

So peoples used to pray to him and invite him by leaving a visiting card or invitation card at that tree and even serve the prepared food to him before anyone.

I get very curious to see that tree, hows it’s like? and to find out that is these stories are true or it just a rumor?

The next morning, after I had my lunch, I convince my cousin to take me to that peepal tree. When I arrived the tree was huge with multiple secondary roots. And its root is divided equally into 2 parts and there are a lot of sacred thread ties in its roots and I could see the remains of the last night prayer and some food left there.

My cousin told me that many people have seen him wandering the area at night and if someone asks for something from him he grants him wishes and always helps who seek his help as a Guardian angel

Being a well profound, our family was a too great devotee, inviting him at every happy moment and leaving food for him which was eaten by Animals.

Sacred Sacrifice

After a few years of shading and growing new leaves, An Invitation letter came, inviting BRAHM BABA to my cousin sister’s wedding.

Everyone was so happy in making things right and enjoying every moment of this sacred ceremony to make it memorable in every aspect. Weeding Ceremony in a Hindu is like a week’s holiday for every person as they indulge themselves in every ritual and Precept ( रस्म ). We all contribute somehow in making this ceremony a great and memorable one.

And its good to know that every ritual and precept was started by praying to our Guardian Angel

My Sister has gone to his husband’s home to have a happy and married life, and we all now get relaxed that My uncle and aunt have found the best life partner for their beloved daughter. After all exhausting week, we have a good night’s sleep.

BUT!!

We all awake after hearing a loud thud (sounded like a tree fell), coming from the forest areas. We all wonder can a tree fall in such a peaceful & calm night?? We all think that may b an old and dying tree has fallen. So, we get back to sleep with a relaxed mind.

The next morning, I wake up by the sound of a few people discussing some tree, and I guessed that they are discussing the old tree that fallen down last night. But when I looked outside the window it’s like the whole village has gathered at our doorstep. I ask my cousin brother what happened?

“ He Falls”

“ Who?” ( being surprised and curious)

“ BRAHM BABA”

“ WHAT & How?”

He replied- " don't know"

It shocked me down to my heart, How a fully grown green peepal Tree would fall in calm night.?? How a Guardian Angel falls?? What makes this happen?

When I got there, the Half of the peepal tree has been ripped out along with its roots, and the other half is standing still. And it was one of the unbelievable moments of my life. I can’t believe what I have just seen with my own eyes.

I came back to seek answers, But there was something else doing on. Few people in our society were saying that BRAHAM BABA has saved our family as well as my sister’s marriage from the utmost evil and by paying the price by sacrificing himself. Is that what happens?

While few people were blaming us by saying that this marriage was not made to happen and now it cost him to pay for your sin.

This heated conversation has come to the conclusion that there will be praying at our home to say Sorry to him and it’s upon him to Forgive us or not. As that very day, everything organized, and many pandits started praying to him and asking for his forgiveness.

Its has been years after that incident, People still goes to what left of our Guardian Angel to pray, and the other half has been cut down into small logs and distributed to all the villagers and either they use his woods in the main entrance to protect them from the evil presence, or use the part of Brahm Baba in their Puja Ghar (Chapel). My sister is happily leaving with his husband and her beautiful child.

Over the years, people use to live with the facts and now they didn’t care about exactly what happened that night? They did move on with Facts

Leaving behind a few questions-

  • How did he fall?
  • What makes the guardian angel sacrifice himself?
  • What was going to happen it he didn’t bargain his life that night?
  • Is it really about my Sister’s wedding or for something?
  • Why the other half remains intact without any scratch?

The following mantra praises peepal tree which needs to be chanted while circum-ambulating a peepal tree or doing puja to it.

Mantra-

 मूला तो ब्रह्मा रूपए
 माझी तो विष्णु रूपी
अग्रतो शिवारूप्ये
 वृक्ष राजय नमो नामहः

    1. People do say many things even without knowing the real reason behind it, but I thought every lore did have some reality to began with. Right?
